Reviving an old thread, but thought it might help others that haven't seen this.
To ward off the hordes of bugs on my hammock and tarp this weekend, I sprayed both with 29% DEET spray.
The hammock body seems fine, but when I sprayed the little tarp on my Hennessy the spray globed up into sticky drops. I just washed it off and noticed the waterproof coating appears to be coming off. It is only happening where the spray formed big sticky drops.
I wish I had read this thread earlier. Do not use DEET on nylon fabrics.

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us....that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.
If you use anything on your hammock, I recommend permitherin. It works great with no negative side effects.
