    Thanks, especially to SweetSpot n Kirkman, for the concrete n useful info. MSDS are helpful but comparing the LD50s really puts things into focus.

    Keg: Dunno, just what I've observed. Horseflies will relentlessly land on my head without spray but never land with spray. Ticks will turn n run from any area that has been sprayed. Interesting to watch that it crawled up my boot but swapped ends when it hit the pants. Never touched the pants.

    Alright, heres a question I haven't had much luck with finding an answer to yet:

    Permithrin in any form dangerous to cats, or just in liquid form?

    Or is there a safer and just as effective alternative? Besides my want to just see skeeters made extinct for some reason..

    Liquid = scrambled brain kitty

    Dry = no issue

    That's what the packaging on my latest bottle said anyway.

    And is backed up by personal experience; my cats never come into contact with wet Permethrin, but come into contact with dried Permethrin frequently. They're no more neurotic than they were a year ago.

    Well, I did a 20 to 1 dilution of my 10% Permithrin as instructed and as I was soaking my various clothes and hammock I noticed a little gnat was walking around on the toe of my boot that I had treated (which was now dry) and as I watched...it died!!!! Guess the stuff works!!

    My local Army/Navy surplus store carries the Sawyer brand stuff in a spray bottle. It might be worth calling the local one to you.

    Also, Sawyer's website has a list of retailers that carry their products. Note that you should probably call the store before wasting gas to go there; WalMart, for example, doesn't carry the permethrin, while they do carry other Sawyer products.

    Hope it helps!

    The soak kit is difficult to find, for some reason. For the last three years, I've had to buy online...this year I won an ebay auction, and paid $5/kit. Search for "Sawyer Insect Repellant Military Style Clothing Treatment."
