OK, Just when I thought I was getting all this whoopie related stuff down, making my slings and learning the locked Brummel, here is a new item.

Is this shackle "openable" like the Nacrabiner? Or, is it a fixed loop?

I'm not exactly sure how it's supposed to be used and what advantages it provides if it's not adjustable or openable (yeah, i know it's not a word).

In Opie's last pic above, why not just have a locked Brummel loop (instead of the neat little loop thingy) go directly over the toggle?

I understand that in some applications you might want just a small closed loop "shackle", but why not just splice a small loop back on itself? Or do they fail under load in some way that these do not? I've made some small ones out of scrap and the seem strong, but i have not tested them with full body weight or to the extennt Opie has.

(or, maybe I'm just dense and asking the stupid/obvious question again)

canoeski, It opens, and can be used to replace a carabiner.

I made a few out of amsteel and a few out of dynaglide and I've hung on the two styles (one on each end of my bedroom hammock) for a full night and 2 hours daytime "testing". They are holding 340 lbs.
    Ambulo tua ambulo.

Thanks Gargoyle. I couldn't discern that it opened. That makes it much more useful.

Am I correct in thinking that it is a somewhat simplified nacrbiner (single strand vs. double)?

Same premise, different method of construction.

That looks like a true double overhand knot. The one Im using doesnt have any line outside the wraps... I suppose its best described as looking like a barrel, hence why one of its names is a barrel knot even thought it looks nothing like a true barrel knot.

how is the strength of the line effected when it is run inside itself? I made one out of 7/64 this morning before work. Any idea on the breaking point of these things?

But good tutorial (again ), these things are pretty nifty. Not sure what use i have for it yet, but i have one!

I dont have any hard numbers. I do know it handles a static load very well. Gargoyle has successfully tested the DG variant. Ive hung off the 7/64 as has lonetracker with success. I did post what I put one through,.....But Id rather have some hard numbers so probably next weekend Ill pull one apart, Both 7/64 and 1/8.

Also.... the stopper knot will be the weak point. Right now this is just my hunch, but it may turn out to be the bury entrance for the lock.

Heya! Thanks opie for the revision!!! I just got done making two nacrabiners version 2.Opie and i'm loving these! Tied one according to your lengths, and made a mini version just for the heck of it (leftover length of amsteel). Made 'em all out of 7/64th... works as advertised.

Had a rough time with that knot at first, but once I saw the line that said that you put the tail up through the coil and then through the loop (missed the coil part) it all dressed up properly.

Thanks again... I'll be testing this (hopefully) soon!
