I love the way you did the knot on that. It's much better than the knot I put in mine. I'm going to try yours next. Thanks a bunch man!

I'm 265 and have no problem supporting myself with nacrobiners and my hope is the strain is still on the rope and not so much the knot much like a marlin spike hitch but my nacrobiners will fray unlike

I made my 1st soft shackle last night, and I'm about to make more. :-) In some of my reading, I've seen others use a diamond knot, in fact one vender calls his soft shackle with a similar knot as seen in this tutorial as "light duty - not for hammock suspension" and his soft shackles with a diamond knot as "regular duty." Is there any reason these soft shackles should not be substituted for regular biners in hammock suspension?

I know I use them in a pinch. In fact, I hang a hammock in my office on soft shackles attached to eye bolts in the ceiling.

Properly made soft shackles are perfectly sufficient for hammock suspension use. The diamond knot is an important element in "properly made".

So, just to confirm...the knot used in this tutorial in post #1 is NOT suitable for hammock suspension?

Correct, you should use a diamond knot for actual suspension. The knot shown in the tutorial is a suitable knot for a utility soft shackle... basically a carabiner replacement for anything other that supporting a person. (with an appropriately sized line for a given application.)
    Good luck,

Thanks! That's what I had kinda figured out by doing some reading, but wanted confirmation.

Now for my next question. :-) How do I tie a diamond knot?...especially using this tutorial...there's only one end/strand vs. two. I've seen some instructions for a diamond knot, but I was really confused looking at them... :-/
