    Thanks Opie.
The knot needs to be exactly on top of the buried tails? And is this duty rated for a guy my size?

I used one made from 7/64 while I was up in Escanaba. Granted I only used it one nite, but it held fine. Gargoyle.. dude.. make one out of DG and let me know how it goes!!! I think youll be OK with the 7/64 though.

My testing, although highly redneck and unscientific because I dont have access to the machine right now, showed the weak point is the inside of the knot. Right where it should be. The knot held fine. I was able to pull a John Deere 850 tractor around the inside of a building at work with the tractor in gear and brake set hitched up to a JD Gator with the soft shackle as a link between the two. It held fine with a static load, but when I put some slack in the chain and then gave it a good tug, the soft shackle failed. I hit it pretty hard, though. Other than a different stopper, this is how the soft shackle is made by marine houses that sell them. They use a chinese stopper knot.

Gargoyle... The reason I place the knot over the buried tails is it eliminate neededing to lock the first bury, the long one. If there is nothing to lock that bury, you could inadvertenly pull it out when you open the lock. It will hold fine under tension, but you could pull it out.

Im using the last knot in this vid as my stopper. Apparently its got several different names... Some call it a double overhand, blood knot, barrel knot. The guy doing the demo calls it an admiralty (sp) stopper.

opie, thanks for taking the time to share.

I tied up one of these earlier this evening while watching my gamecocks eat some tiger for dinner. WOOOOOOOOOOO Buddy! (had to borrow that one from shug)

I'll say that this didn't look all the difficult and it wasn't really all that hard to do but BOY did my fingers have something else to say about it!

Sometimes you get into something and you wonder/forget why you are getting into it.
Here is my goal with the soft shackle.
My tree huggers either have a triangle on the end and/or a sewn loop.
I want to connect the triangle or sewn loop to the soft shackle and then the soft shackle to my whoopie sling.
This is to negate my carrying toggles for a MSH or finding them on the ground.
I also want to be able to shackle the soft shackle to the whoopie while the hammock is in the backpack so I don't loose them.
Simple plan for simple minded one such as myself.
