    Tricks and Techniques

Like tent camping, hammock camping gets easier after you practice setting up, tearing down and packing. The more you practice, the easier it gets.

I was wondering what is YOUR favorite trick or tip you can share that--every time you do it--you say to yourself, "Yeah, I'm dead clever!" It might be the perfect "knot/purpose" marriage, maybe it's the order in which you tear down, maybe it's how you get in/out of your hammock, maybe it how you pick your site or a favorite accessory... . Whatever it is, share it with all of us--the newbies and the veterans. We are all apprentices, we are all masters. We share a love for hammocks and part of what we love about it is that we are always learning new things!

So, comeon! Tell us your neatest trick or tip that makes for more "hanging time" and less "fussing time" (although--truth be told--we love the fussing time too!)

When I figured out that Crown Royal bags make great little stuff sacks for loose items (like clothes, toiletries, games) or a great cover for my stove and fuel (It also makes a good pot scrubber and pot grabber too.)

Two things. I like keeping my tarp near the top of my pack for easy setup. And wraping up all the guy lines before I draw up my tarp in snake-skins. I have a stuff sack from AHE with pockets for my t-huggers ,toggles and t-pegs. With a two ended ss I keep one end for the head of my hammock. So my hammock comes out and goes in the same way.

One more excuse to buy Crown Royal...just wish they offered different colors, besides purple.

Do you know how hard it is to find things when EVERYTHING is in purple stuff sacks.

They add up in the weight category too.

    Black feet, red head.

The black carabiner on my Blackbird's webbing is the foot end (with a silver 'biner on the other end). Black feet.

The red carabiner on my AHE Lost River UQ goes to my head end. That way, I don't have much adjustment to do. Red head.

If I could attend a hang and get in a good few rounds of gaming I would consider that to be a GREAT camping experience.
