Here is kind of a highlight of an old Abbot & Costello movie, In The Navy, the first 3 or 4 minutes there are sailors carrying their hammocks rolled up and tied around their sea bags as was the use back then, and a sketch of Lou having trouble to get in his hammock. The sketch is not complete but almost. It lacks a little scene of Lou trying to ride the hammock like a horse. To see it full you can see the whole movie in parts on youtube or get it on torrent, it is usually easy to find.

Thanks for sharing. That was funny!

Grok and bugman, thanks for the comments.

If you liked that you will love this. This is an episode of the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, where Lucy goes to Alaska. I will copy-paste the video description:

With Ricky invited to appear on The Red Skelton Show to celebrate Alaska's new statehood, the Ricardos and the Mertzes head north for the gig-a trip thatalso gives Fred and Ricky a chance to survey the land they've recently purchased, sight-unseen, in the new state. But tempers flare when they discover they've bought nothing but frozen wasteland-and the situation gets even worse when their hotel accommodations leave the Ricardos and Mertzes with one small bed, a sleeping bag, an army cot, and a hammock! Leave it to Lucy to try to save the day with a plan to sell the land to comedian Red Skelton himself-a scheme that sends both redheads into a blizzard!

The hammock appears at first at 7:00 in the first video, but the "action" is only in the second one, but I included it because I liked how they stablished the situation to see who is going to sleep where. Guess who gets the hammock? That´s right. The hammock appears only the first minute of the 3rd. video, just to make the final punchline.

Just got my new copy of "The Backwoodsman" Magazine. They have a 3 1/2 page article on hammock camping. Pretty good for a magazine aimed mostly at the old-timey ways of doing things and the black powder crowd. They also have an article on making a cooker out of an exhaust pipe adapter, another on how to make hard cider, and in keeping with their pseudo-survivalist track, an interview with "survivor man" Les Stroud.

The sailor´s pray, from some military.com forum. I have seen like 3 different variations of this photo, they were used like postcards. There is a postcard with a sailor on the deck of a ship, but it doesn´t have a hammock on it.

I'm having a difficult time finding some pictures, but if I remember correctly everybody on Gilligan's Island sleeps in hammocks inside their little huts. I'm 100% sure Gilligan and the Skipper do; theirs were bunk bed-style (one above the other). It was a common theme for them to have problems getting in & out because of how the hammocks were hung.

I remember watching Nicktoons with my daughter way back when. I hope you people find this as entertaining as I...I mean my daughter did.
