I'm getting close to finishing my first DIY tarp and want to add pull-outs to the middle of the panels. I'm thinking of using a diamond/square shape for looks, but wonder if that would be inferior to a circular shape in terms of distribution of forces. What do you think?

I've done squares, there shouldn't be a tremendus amount of stress, your just pulling the tarp outward.
Backwoods Daydreamer (sclittlefeild) uses a rectangle. Theres pics on his site.
Good luck..their tuff to do. Use a quilting hoop if you got one, helps keeps everything in line and flat.
