    Rothco GI Style Jungle Hammocks

    Hey Folks,
I have a friend that got a Rothco jungle hammock from someone as a gift. He wants to start using it on hikes with me.
Now I helped him set it up to so what we were dealing with, but this thing seems very tippy.

So I am wondering, does anyone have advice to stablize this thing? I found a couple images and videos on Youtube, but not much that I could really use.

It looks like this style needs to be pulled tighter between the trees which makes it easy to tip over. I am wondering if the upper loops for the tarp help hold it.

I appreciate any help. If I can help get him going I am sure he will upgrade later. This is what we have right now.

I haven't used one but from what I see Its a Very shallow Bridge style.
    With no outer edge support
I think One of Our Bridge Hammock Pros here might have a Idea or two

Just the nature of the beast. I would not recommend using the tarp as stabilizing/anchor points, if it does tip the tarp could rip. Creating some sag in the hammock will lower the center of gravity, might give that a try. Good luck

I had one a long time ago, (at least similar) and did not use the spreader bar on the hammock. I did have a spreader for the tarp.

Those hammocks are a bit too small for an adult in my opinion.

I bought one as my first hammock purchase, but had in mind to use it for my son (10 years old & small stature) if it wouldn't work for me.
I hung it, got in - and proclaimed it was his hammock right away!

It is a decent quality hammock for the $$, but it is also very heavy. The bottom is canvas and provides warmth/durability (which also makes it great for a youth). I replaced the tangle of ropes that came with it by threading a whoopie sling through the tabs of strapping that is sewn to the canvas. This shortened it even further (but still plenty long for my son), but made set-up a whole lot easier.

I even have a set of snake skins ordered for it (hope they will fit ) to simplify set-up/storage even more.

There's just no way to make it more stable/comfortable for an adult that I can figure out.

He didn't have any spreaders for it. I saw an pic of one online with spreaders installed, but it looked like you should just add a motor and make it a rotisserie.

This is one of the first things I thought. I figured Amstell would make it lighter.

    That's not promising.

Maybe we can find a way to make it work for a few hikes and get him upgraded quickly.

Could try using Grip Clips to guy-out the sides to keep it from tipping ....a thought.

I'm not familiar with that. I will google it and see what I find.

Ok, I found them. That might work. I would have to see if the canvas would accept those clips. Something like that may help.

I would just hang the sucker close to the ground, and use it as is.
