Yep, Ed is the hammock professor.
I agree with his 2' rule. I'm 6' and none of my DIY hammocks are less than 10' whipping to whipping, most are a few inches longer.

Oops... I guess he said 2 ft on each end. Thanks, G!
Edit: Sorry, Cannibal... for some reason your avatar and Gargoyle's trigger the same (nervous) reaction in me and I get confused.

Looks like the same material Walmart sells. If it is, a single layer hammock should be fine. Here's how I made mine: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=15205

I'm thinking a 12 ft hammock with a 96 to 108" ridge line and a 15' x 10' rain fly.
I ordered an extra 10 yards of fabric today, just encase
My DIY hammocks are all 5' x 11' without a structural ridgeline. No cut across the leg, comfy diagonal, forgiving to hang...

My indoor sleeper is 120" with a 101" ridgeline and 96" wide. Built on the model of the ENO doublenest.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

HAHAhaha. Hey Jon! She knows this is how I am.
My fabric arrived last night. The side says, "Cammo taslan nylon 100%"
Can't wait to get started making my hammock.
Any opinions on taslan nylon?
