The tarp is the Chinook 12'x9'6". I've had a few large tarps in my day, and I have to say, this is one great tarp for the money (cheap). I think the size is perfect. Even set up with the "porch" it would take a heck of a storm to get the hammock wet.
I don't hike, canoeist only, when there's so much water around it seems silly to walk So the trekking pole idea is out. It's the minimum distance that gave me reason to stand and stare at the trees. I think I'll carry a small piece of rope cut at the minimum the tarp can be strung.
While I complain about the rain (a Canadian tradition to complain about the weather), it, and the bugs were exactly what I needed to test the setup. A good thunderstorm would have been nice. The bass were delicious!
