    Hangin' at home

    Hello fellow members!

Sometimes I want to setup my hammock at home to try something out, sometimes to accomodate an additional guest or two here at home (plus it introduces them to the idea of hangin' instead of laying uncomfortably on the ground and so on!)

But those diagrams of pressure exerted when angle of hang is factored in scares me ... so what are people's experiences? I imagine I could hand using the metal support poles in the basement, but what about using a wall support 2x4? What about hanging in a room that's already sheetrocked...is there any way to anchor reliably to the underlying studs without bringing the house down?

Thanks for all your thoughts and experience!
    John

I trust rafters more than wall studs. I've been hanging from rafters for two years with no problems and that includes double sleeping with my girlfriends some nights. I'm around 230 pounds.

Ha ... if he had more than one girlfriend I've got a good idea he'd not have a single hammock ... just one pine box!

Check out this thread on a 2X4 Hammock stand: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=8758. Also Google Risk's hammock stand. I made one for my daughter and she loves it. You can see pictures of if your search for Daughters New Bed.

Boy o boy, I sure hope Genuine Draft doesn't see this thread. I got a thousand bucks says she will never buy the idea that it was a typo.

I have a couple on my phone handy. They are a few months old and what you're looking at was temporary until we moved into another room. We keep it very simple as can be seen.

Makes life very easy when the rafters are exposed. The room we are in now was a different story and I'll try to remember to get some pics tonight. There is about a 1" gap between the ceiling's sheetrock and the rafters above the rock. My cheapo stud finder couldn't hope to find a stud in that situation. My solution was to measure and 'guess'. When I had my best guess, I took a 2.5" hole-saw and drilled a hole through the sheetrock; only missed once! Genuine Draft is currently working on something to cover the holes (decorative) that won't interfere with the hang. A few more tricks in the process, but the actual attachment method hasn't changed a bit.

BTW, the futon bed you see in the background is the only bed in our house....and it belongs to the dog!
