For around $50 + S&H you can get two Poncho Liners from Sportsmans Guide and make a UQ and TQ.......there are other, cheaper methods to getting 3 season insulation.
You'll freeze your azz off with the poncho liners, I've used poncho liners on four continents over 33yrs. Yes, I'm sure the AHE gear is great stuff. I had a KAQ and I still have a DIY Jardine TQ and I can't sleep worth a crap on the ground with it. YMMV.

I'm glad you posted this alternative though. The AHE Lost River looks like a great UQ to get started with, for many it may be all they need. If you can sew, make yourself a summerweight synthetic TQ and see if you can sleep on the ground without having to wake up cold and retuck. Some don't have a problem.

Made one last week from DWR rip-stop and 1/2 poly insulation. 10 ounces and overly warm at 70. Probably way comfy to 50 with base layer and rain/jacket pants.

I was thinking of making a DIY IX TQ for my new Mac IX UQ and came up with the idea that the two could be attached together in an emergency as a sleeping bag.
