    The Ogee Tarp

I wanted a tarp that met many different needs. I've built a few rectangular tarps, and one diamond and a few others shapes. All fun to do but nothing special.

When I built my last diamond, Old Gringo asked for a copy, but requested doors. So, I buzzed up another diamond and added a copy of the grizz beak. It seemed to work fine. I didnt get a chance to sleep in it, but backyard tests looked promising.

So I liked the door idea and thought permanently attached doors would be a neat option.

And thats where this journey began...

I made a hybrid diamond with doors. The doors create a beak or prow, which seals the ends. Set it up and took some shots. The beak would be a handy place to hang a backpack, up out of the weather.

Which I thought looked pretty cool!

But during the night, I dreamed about tarps and hammocks (like usual), and a thought occured to me...what if you turn the tarp, hang it from different corners? hmmm.....

Hung from the normal low corners of the diamond. Doors staked out to the ground.

Propped up on "hiking poles", lean-to style.

Lean-to style with side pulled down tight.

Hung from the doors, cross-corner, 14 foot ridge with this setup. During construction, I realized there would be a lot of guylines (10) plus the "normal" ridgeline. So I sewed in a mesh bag to store all the guylines. (thats the black thing dangling inside) Works great, hangs down in every set up configuration. A handy spot to store small items, as well!

Room for two? I have not tried yet, but it sure looks like it.
weight you ask? 30 0z. on my scale. Not bad considering this one is done with pu ripstop.
Lots of options, so far I have come up with at least 20 different ways you can tweak it.Propped up, doors closed, wings up, down, etc.

Did I complicate the simplicity of the diamond? Nope! The tarp still sets up fine with just two tent stakes, if you so desire. Doors tie back, till needed. Storage bag holds all the guylines, stake them out as required. Or leave them home.
A few more shots below and more in my gallery.

    Thanks guys,
Origami for sure. But waterproof origami!

Opie, the last time I was in the box, the cat tried to bury me.
I'm thinking the design would work great with the bridge hammock

Pretty interesting design... definitely origami! Are you going to try to remake it with lighter material now that you are happy with the design?

Yes in deedie! I have some sil on order and hope to replicate the design.
I figure I can cut the weight in half with 1.1 sil vs 3.0 oz pu.
