    Snakes- temperature range?

I hope that this isn't too off-topic. But, do you guys know a GENERAL temperature when snakes do not become as active? I know it varies and is independent to species and such. It really affects my decisions on sleeping setups at times. LOL. I have never had a problem sleeping on the ground under a floorless pyramid for a long time. But, am just interested.

    Thanks.

I don't know about temps, but on just about any sunny, calm, winter day, rattlers will come out of their dens, and sunbathe. They don't go very far, and they're lethargic, but they're there, nontheless.

Here's the bad news: dens are found in prime winter campsites...sheltered, and having warmish microclimates.

FWIW my rule of thumb is if it's nice enough for me to be out and almost break a sweat, it's snake weather.

Having said that, I realize they can be out when I don't suspect too so anything above freezing makes me at least be aware.

Well- the cool thing is looking down at them now while hanging. That is a great feeling.
Please no one say anything about snakes that like webbing and hammocks.
We will never conquer a mountain. The mountain allows us to visit and with enough time asks us to kindly go back down. And sits in peace with or without our presence.

I like to hold them until they warm up.

Any other time I just pay attention to where I'm walking and such, no biggie. They are not going to chase you down, so for the most part all you have to do is not step on one.

I don't have the expertise to answer your question about temperature, but if it's warmer they come out and sunbathe, if it's colder they don't. Did that help any?
I like to go solo - off trail - immerse myself in the area - explore - eat really well - and make it back home.
