As I stated in previous threads I have been on a hammock building spree and was thinking about building a bridge hammock for my 2yr old daughter. However, I was also trying to put together some instructions on how to build these hammocks for the scouts so I decided to make a scaled down model for my daughter.
The base is made with Wal-mart taffeta from the dollar bins. The outer layer with the hearts is nylon taffeta and the inner black layer is a polyester anti static taffeta. The wings are a nylon taffeta and the bug net is nanoseeum from Quest outfitters. This fabric/hammock held me with no issue, so the end product is built like a tank and definitely not ultra light given its size.
Its starting dimensions were 7 feet long by 42 inches wide. The best part was that it went together extremely quickly as I finished it start-to-finish in about six hours. So my sewing skills are finally coming together. This thing still has some crooked stitches and screw-ups, but I am really pleased with the end result as is my daughter.
