    Newbie Hanger Saying Howdy

Okay so it's been about 20 years since I've been on the trail and I'm gearing up to hit it again.

Been doing some research and although I'm not getting freaky on the UL thing I am seriously considering the weight of all my gear. I'm not 20 years old anymore and neither are my knees and hips and all the rest. So getting a little OCD on weight isn't a bad thing.

I'm enchanted by the hammock idea. In fact, I'm sold. I'm also a cheapskate. I would hate to spend lots of money on something that doesn't work for me. So I'm looking at the HH Expedition Asym with the side zipper. The website states 6', 300#. I'm in at 72.5 inches. So that puts me on the tall end. Can I get away with the HH Expedition or do I really need to go with a longer hammock?

As far as making my own stuff, I would love to but don't have a sewing machine. I like the idea that I can get a turnkey package from HH. Unless somebody has a setup that is similarly priced with what appears to be ease of setup without having to order extras, let me know. I'm in Florida so I need the skeeter netting for sure.

There may be a few occasions I would need to pitch on the ground too so I like the versatility of the HH. There aren't a lot of trees on some of the islands in Florida Bay or along the Wilderness Waterway in the Everglades.

Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to doing some hanging.

    Hello and welcome to HF!

I'm only 5ft tall, but I'm sure other folks here have some idea how that hammock might work out for you at your height.

I'm no spring chick anymore. Hammocks sure are helping me with the transition.

I'm no ULer backpacker either, but I sure do like it when I am able to replace something with something lighter!

    Welcome back to backpacking!

Welcome to the forums. I do not have any experience with the Hennesey Hammocks. But lots of our members do. I'm sure that they will chime in shortly!
