Okay, that mystery 4x4 in Deadwood, SD.
It's a Nissan Patrol from the late '60s or so.
They weren't imported into the US for many years, and the numbers imported were never huge, from what I've read over the years. I think that I can count the ones that I've seen in person in the US on one hand and still hold a potato chip.
Nissan still uses the Patrol nameplate, I think, in other markets.
Prob'ly wasn't worth the wait, was it?
PM me if you find one for sale.
Hang loose,
Chris
Gladly.
I can send you a link to a couple of other ride reports I did on another forum. One was an 18-day trip in '07, and the other was a 30-day trip in '08. There was a rollback in one of those, too, but I was a groundling then, so no hammocks.
Shoot me a PM if you want the links.
I, umm, never got around to doing a trip report on my 13-day ride last year.
Thanks for riding along.
Chris

I'm dipping my toes into "hanging" off a bike. Going to try an over nighter on the Parkway next week to practice for a trip to the UP of Michigan next month.
Nice trip and it's good to see you taking a break from playing "tag".
Cheers!

First, I thoroughly appreciate your taking the time out of your trip to share this with everyone here. It has inspired me to document my river trip coming up in a few weeks. I won't be able to report until after the trip but will get it done. I already have the thread reserved and worked today on getting ready.
Second, I believe HS teachers are supposed to be able to write. Hi res pics sell articles. If there's not an article or two in all of this you can forget it. One for the moto mags based around the bike itself, and one for the outdoor mags based around the camping. Forget about those guys with support vehicles trailing behind, YOU ARE THE MAN!
Third, where's the critique? The little details like the RV step on the AAA was awesome. What are you definitely going to have to do next time, slightly differently, etc? Will you take the same bike and GPS?
Keep 'em coming and thanks for the ride.
I've thoroughly enjoyed your trip report. I've only found it here today but have been following you over on adv rider. because of you and your post, i have ordered a hammock and associated stuff and a gps and associated stuff...and in the process found this forum. i'll be a smokies trip sept 3-10 riding my bandit. my credit card company said to tell you THANKS
Great report! Thanks!
Many excellent pictures...
