With the wind blowing everything away, I didn't figure you had much of a chance to look, but figured I'd ask.

Yeah, I chuckled to myself when I first saw your question... I figured Jeff was just glad he had survived that night and felt a great sense of relief in the morning after he reached around with both hands and confirmed his rear end was still attached.

Correct. But what I meant about TH being ahead of his time on that was: he was not attaching tarp to trees. Though probably not for any reasons mentioned in this thread.

Say more about this. How are you connecting the tarp to the webbing? I have considered such because I don't like rope around trees at all.
I finally got version 2 assembled...one nice unanticipated benefit is that this system allows the tarp to be pulled up hard against one or both trees, allowing the use of more closely spaced trees.

The Figure 9 is hard to see, but it's there, clipped to the strap. The Dynaglide is larksheaded directly to the tarp.

How is the strap for the tarp fastened to the tree?

    I'm sorry...I failed to mention that...it's a Fastex side-release buckle.

If you're going to do that, why not just attach the tarp to the hammock's huggers? You could girth the hugger around the tree so the tarp's attachment point wouldn't sag when you got in the hammock. Wouldn't take any more time than adding a whole 'nother strap just for the tarp.

That would work, but would you always want both suspensions hung at the same height?

Send me webbing, I'll return it as straps. I LIKE to make stuff!

Dutch: I sewed the loop on the Dutch-clip end of my latest tree huggers close enough that the clip will never fall out and get lost. Cool, eh?

Anyone else: Speer 1" webbing makes the best tree straps of any that I've seen. Where can you get the exact same stuff now?

I think he probably was. He was selling TH straps with the lack of damage and ease of use as co-selling points 5 years ago when I got my 1st HH. I think.
