what type of rope or chordage does everyone use?
And Why do you use that type?
what is the best size and all around rope or chordage to have in backpack do you think?
and most importantly what kind do you use with your hammock?

Look at the high tech single and double braids. Some popular choices from these categories are the amsteel, spyderline, and vectrus. Most are using a 2.8 or 3mm for the hammock.
I use the 7/64 from here:

I use 1/8" or 3/32" (I can't remember) Crystalyne from Yale, bought from Annapolis Performance Sailing. I have it because I was able to get about 200' feet of it really cheap, something like less than half its regular price. It was a cut length leftover and I bought it during their crodage sale, which apparently happens every February.
I like it. It's probably too thin for many uses, but I can carry a lot of it with very little weight. I purposely carry too much of it in case I have to double it up for extra strength. Probably not the most efficient thing to do, but I mainly canoe camp rather than hike, so an extra pound or two is no big deal.
I use Poly webbing for the suspension. I use the four wrap knot so this fits my style best, plus it's light and cheap.
For general cordage I use 550 cord (Parachute cord). I use the White for all my guy outs, easier to see at night. I use Blue for special purpose, like the peak lines for my tarp, and regulation OD Green for everything else, including my extra carry. With 550 you can also canibalize the inner strands for fine work like whipping, sewing or backing for repair jobs. Plus, it's cheap, 500 feet for $14!
