An Orca is born! MollyMac IX Underquilt

The stork delivered a new baby Orca yesterday, in time for me to backyard test it before heading off to summer camp for an extended test.

Many thanks to Mac for rushing it to me!

    First impressions:
~smaller and lighter than I imagined.
    ~very nice finish work
~very warm (although it was a warm night, I was sweating like a pig by sunrise when the first light hit it and had to get up)
~ not sure how it's intended to attach to the hammock ends or suspension. I used a micro-biner.
~ I need to tweak the attachment of fitting to get the foot end to close up consistently. (can't make any adjustment form the inside in a HH with bottom opening)
~I very much like the black, breathable nylon cover. No hammock diaper here.
~I think I'm gunna like it.

This was a custom request modification. I can't help but believe that this is the first born Orca in a large family.

    My laid back son:

I had my neighbor model it (his wife did too, and now understands why she sees me out her kitchen window everymorning) :

The HH mitten hook, or a micro biner... different for each hammock, but I usually hang it from the whipping knot, with an extra loop if necessary.

Try a short piece of shock cord over the ridgeline, lifting the suspension. You'll have to play with it to find the right point on the foot end suspension to lift.

At both ends I use a prussic knot with a carabiner on the ridgeline to adjust and maintain the position. The carabiner is clipped around the support lines.
I THOUGHT GETTING OLDER WOULD TAKE MUCH LONGER.

I've never had to lift the suspension. To be certain that you must do, try this:

    1. If there are gaps on the edges or ends, you need to tighten the suspension.
    2. If you get Cold Bottom Syndrome (CBS) then you need to loosen the suspension.
    3. If you can't find the happy medium, then you should toss a line over the ridge.

SEEMS to work well, I can easily slide the prussic to adjust for sleeping position and ventilation. Can't tell about CBS till it gets colder!
