Yeh I think it's totally awesome. Tell you something though. I wouldn't be smoking a cigarette or packing a knife on that trip

The creator of Family Guy made a funny albiet distasteful video about climbers and their, well you know. It's so vulgor that I wont post the link here, but if you'd like to see it go to www.youtube.com and type in "the mountain climber" into the search. It's definately not for everyone
Those who expect disappointment are never disappointed.
I know a guy who has hung in a hammock he made on walls during climbs ... similar to the Bat Hammock. He also worked with Doug Peacock. He survived and is doing well in his 60's.
The Portaledge has been around for couple decades, click the drawing.

"There's no accounting for other people's taste in love, fiction and huntin' dogs." ---Mark Twain
Just looking at those pictures gives me the heebeegeebees! I can imagine hopping out of the hammock in a half-asleep state.
which would be why you attach your harness to a separate point!
Chocks and fre climbing have reduced the use of hammer-driven pitons as a method of installing protection points.
And PVC "Torpedos" and WAG bags have replaced the practice of simply "letting it fly" on big wall climbs.
More people on the rocks, more impact leads to changes in acceptable standards. SOrt of like using tree straps.
