11.2 oz DIY hammock w/ complete suspensio

I just switched out my suspension on the diy hammock I recently built per Knotty's instruction thread. I now have a 7/64 amsteel whoopie sling w/ the adjustable loop run through my webbing loop and a soft shackle used in place of a biner. The total weight including my black bishop bag is 11.2 oz. Its made from single layer poly ripstop from WM ($1.50/yd) and is super strong. I weigh 260# and it is rock solid w/ me in it.

    Thumbs up

Very nice ... feels good to lay back in your own handy work doesn't it?

Very nice work -- looks like you have some nice 'wilderness' in your front yard!

Is that a double-sided stuff sack or a black bishop bag?

Unfortunately for me my best hammock hanging site at home is right out front... I get a few strange looks from the neighbors but who cares.

The stuff sack started out as a standard round bottom diy stuff sack. I then decided a blackbishop bag like the one that came with my WBBB would be more useful so I cut the bottom off, hemmed a draw string channel and voila - blackbishop bag.

haha -- yah, i figured as much... I'm in a similar situation but my neighbors (especially the folks in the other 1/2 of the duplex) have learned to expect such things on my slice of land.

I'm looking to make a bishop bag myself... your looks like it fits really well! nice job!

Hey! I am in Greenville too. I go to Riverside High and live in River Oaks. And judging by the street sign in the background, I see you're right down the street in Sugar Mill (?). I am wondering which Walmart you went to...because the Pelham Rd. Walmart dosent have a fabric section (at least I don't think they do...)

But anyways your hammock looks great, and at 11.2 oz extremely light! I'm impressed! I am very interested in the fabric you bought, seeing as it's only $1.50 / yd. That's why I asked which Walmart, haha.

I just finished my DIY hammock and I can't wait to make another! I'm sure you'll agree that it is very rewarding.

Chicky - Welcome to HF! I am right around the corner in Sugar Creek. The only two WMs in the area that still sell fabric are the ones on White Horse Rd (Berea) and Travelers Rest. I don't think either is scheduled to lose the fabric department until next year. When I bought that fabric I bought 12 yds and still have about 7 1/2 yds. Its kind of satin, shiny, feels slick but is not coated on either side. I originally thought it might be sil nylon but once I got home & compared its a ripstop poly of some sort and plenty breathable from what I can tell so far.

Thank you! It's exciting to know there are people on the forums in the upstate. And thanks for the info--I'll be making a trip to one of the Walmarts very soon to check out the material and buy some. Whatever it is...it seems to make a nice hammock.
