It was the heat... diy snafu

Before I reveal my own stupidity lets get a little background on how this all came about.
So yesterday after a solid day of working out in the sun I decided it was finally time to make a hammock out of the 5 yds of ripstop I bought a few months back. Went to the grandmother's because she said she would love to help, which turned into her sewing the whole thing. She was doing a great job and quite frankly her machine scared the heck out of me. The yard maulers (mowers, hedgetrimmers, chainsaw) I had been using earlier seemed tame compared to her instrument of torture. In what I am going to now blame on the heat and a german physics professor that made us use metric religiously I turned 120 inches into 12 feet. I think we all know what I should have gotten when I did my math but what the heat did to my brain I don't understand. When we were measuring it out we both said that seemed excessive but I still didn't catch my mistake. Soo long story short I am now the proud owner of a 12 foot hammock. It is perfectly stitched though. Think im going to go back to the gram's to see if she can't fix my mathematical miscalculation. I'll post a few pics once I find a space in the house to stretch it out...
Moral of this story, don't convert units while dehydrated.

I think a 12 foot hammock sounds very comfortable! Try it out before you change it. You may like it.

Better 2 feet too long than 2 feet too short... one is an 'opps' and the other is an 'aw _____'. Like was mentioned, you might find yourself putting that 12 footer (minus tying it off) to good use.

Actually you can shorten it before you remove fabric and get an idea of what length best suits you. Didn't someone post about making an adjustable length hammock by using a descender ring and sliding it down the end of the hammock in some means?

It's 58" to start with minus maybe an inch to hem the raw edge. I guess the main reason I was planning on trimming back as it's not for me but my gf who is about 5'2". Seemed like over kill but I'll give it due trial before I decide its fate.

I have an 11' DIY hammock and really like it. Yeah, I have to find trees a good distance apart to use it, but it's really comfortable. Don't give up on your hammock before trying it out first.

At 12' long, you could both sleep in it. Head to toe.
