I was wondering if this seam would work for a tarp. I don't know if this is an "established" (for lack of a better word) seam or not. It's an idea I was thinking about. But it looks to be easier to sew than a Flat Felled Seam.
A- Place the two outside's of fabric back to back and sew together.
B- Fold sewn edge over approx 1/4 th inch and sew again.
C- Then fold again in same direction approx. 1/4 th in or so and sew through all the layers.

If you don't mind a flap that is not flat with the fabric it should work. I'm not sure I see why it would be preferable to a flat felled seam. It is more or less the same thing except for the final step of opening the fabric to sew it down flat. Although I would set the fabric right sides together at first.
