    tarp guy line tensioner strength

What is the average strength (in pounds of pull) of a guy line tensioner? More specifically, what would be the min. effective strength?
I've got some small shock cord and it gives about 4 lbs of pull and I'm curious if that is enough to keep things tight, also don't want to have too much to where I'm continuously pulling too hard on the tarp.
I'd like to have the goldilocks meets ron popeil of line tensioners, not too strong, not too week, but just right, and I can set them and forget them.
So what has been your experience with tensioner strength?
    Thanks
    Good luck,

Good question, I was wondering the same thing myself!

Piggyback question - and before I ask, forgive me for using algebra-like notation!!!

Assuming that you require "X" amount of force,
and assuming that your shock cord provides 1/2 X...
... can you just double up the shock cord to double its strength?

Is 1/8 inch shock cord about right, or do you need more?

    Thanks!

The green thera-bands are the best I've found for tensioners. I made a couple with the black and they're a bit to strong for what I needed. JRB uses the green, as well.

This chart shows the green is 5 lbs and the black is 9 lbs.
