    First DIY Tarp

Just made my first diy tarp. Its a diamond 12' long at the ridge x 10' 4" wide. I made it with 3# / SY urethane coated digital camo fabric I bought at WM for $1.50 / yd. Finished weight with tie outs is 17.7 oz so its not ultra light but for less than $10 in materials its a good compromise. Given that my only other tarp is a SWT this will give me a few more options & a spare..

Sweet! I think that I have some of that nylon, you've inspired me. It looks great made into a tarp.

Very nice ... nice to hang in your own gear isn't it?

Hey Dave...very nice tarp! I went to that WM on white horse rd. and bought some of the same digital camo material, as well as 5 yards of the silvery hammock body material. I couldn't decide what type of coating was on the digital camo, but I figured it was waterproof. It's good to see a nice diamond shaped tarp, I was thinking of doing an elongated hex shape but I think I may now try a simpler diamond.

My only question, did you have to seam seal the flat felled seam down the center? Or is it just simply sewn together?

Hawkeye - You're right it is a good feeling knowing you made the gear you are using and it's exaxtly the specs / design you wanted etc...

Chicky - I did have to seam seal the ridgline (flat felled seam). I used Seam Grip which is a urethane based sealer. Its pretty thick but I thinned it down a little before applying. One side was probably OK but I brushed both sides just in case. I also covered the stitching on the webbing tie-outs since these areas will receive the most handling and my thought was by coating the stiching I will be less likely to snag a thread, etc...

Nothing in my Walmarts either. I feel left out. I even checked one in Utah on my way through. Still nothing. Anyone want to buy some for those less fortunate?

just for scientific purposes i left the hammock made out of this in the storm we had last night. this morning i had a rather large swimming pool hangin from my trees.BUT there was drips in the bottom, so not 100% waterproff but as the tarp shouldnt hold water i think it will work fine.
