Wipe with full strength vinegar prior to painting. This is the safest "greenest" acid wash for galvanized. Commercially available acid wash (Galvaprep) is much more hazardous (dilute hydrochloric acid AFAIK).

Shadowmoss'sss stand is pretty cool. Maybe you could have your guy shorten the legs a little. Maybe he could put a cross piece between the legs to attach your hammock to and then you could loose the eye bolts that will give you problems with the tarp. I like this design. Very cool and portable.

I was thinking of the same thing. Or what about chain link fence corner fittings?

This looks very cool. I looked all over the site and cant figure out where to find this stuff and how much it cost. Do you have to call the corporate number to get info?

Thanks exdiver and skatersdad. Both good tips. I will await info on where to get Kee-Klamp. Wonder, too, if it would hold under stress f hammock and a couple hundred lbs.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but when i was working we used something similar to the keyclamp, dif brand called speedi-rail, for handrail repair.....it was high dollar stuff....would work fine though as it was heavy duty. We were able to purchase at the local whoelsale plumbing supply ...go figure.

    Here is one source:

    http://www.mcmaster.com/#rail-clamps/=836iio

While McM-C is an industrial supplier they will happily fill credit card orders for the general public, as long as you can provide a UPS street address for delivery.

Clamps are available for many sizes of pipe. Clamps can be had in several materials. There are also many types of fittings - these are commonly used for constructing guardrail systems, which by OSHA reg need to withstand a 200# sideways force. They are quite strong (I fabricated a portable derrick that easily lifts 500# refrigeration compressors).

For security you might want to replace the set screws with bolts and drill corresponding holes in the pipes for the bolts to pass through. Small set-screws are a pain to search for in grass or duff.

Between Kee Klamps and Unistrut a fella (or girl!) could build some impressive structures.

    Jim
