Thumbs up Bay Circuit Trail Hike

Well, 95 degrees and sunny - PERFECT time for a hike!

Had the day off, my outdoorsy daughter was home, and I copped a full day "Honey-Do" pass from She Who Must Be Obeyed. We decided to return to the Ward Hill Reservation to do a section hike of the Bay Circuit Trail, and more.

Ward Hill is 700 acres donated to the Trustees of Reservation for public use, over several hills about 30 miles north of Boston. Mrs Ward memorialized her hiking-loving husband with the creation of the "Solstice Stones" - a 40 foot accurate compass of granite stones laid into the ground on the top of a hill.

The Bay Circuit trail runs through the reservation, and is part of a 200-mile trail linking over 50 towns around the city of Boston, from Plum Island in the North Shore, to Kingston Bay in the South Shore.

My 17 y/o camera-shy daughter Alison, AKA the Ewok, and I set-out for a Daddy-Daughter bonding day. Although I had strict orders there would be no pictures, I have proved the existence of the Ewok using cunning and fast shooting - she exists!

There were wonderful moderate trails through swamps and a rare "quaking bog", some primitive rocky trails requiring a compass and good footwear, and spectacular meadows with views all the way to Boston, 33 miles away.

    It was a great hike!

Sounds like a great outing ... except for the 95 degree part. Tell her she's cute ... no need to be camera shy!

OH ... and you do know that Honey-do passes are not real passes ... they accrue interest!

====> You are correct... and that interest is becoming due this weekend, when I will have to drive up to Ogunquit, Maine, and wander through boutiques for a few hours. Not that I mind that, except it is gonna cost a fortune - I can smell it!

It looked like you had a great trip. I see that was the compass you were talking about during the New England hang, that looked cool. I hop there is a fall hang I'd like to catch up again.

====> Hi Veto! Nice to hear from you! Yep! I will be trying to organize another New England/NY/ East Coast trip in the fall, definitely! Had a ball at the last one! Hopefully, I can send my hammock off to 2QZQ by then, and have the mods done.

We did have a great trip .... took a few cell phone pics, and spent a little time actually TALKING together ... rare at these ages! Hiking and fishing have become the touchstone of communications for the two of us. Only then do we have really substantive discussions, and strengthen our relationship.

Hope your canoe trip was fun, and stay tuned for Fall Hang information!

===> Yes..that is very true. Both my daughters are aware that I am dealing with a couple of potentially life-limiting diseases, and they also have learned that time is the most precious commodity we have. We try to make the most of time that we get to spend together, and hammocking and camping is greatly going to increase those times!
