Can you push it up and out of the way when you want to use the hammock as a chair?

No. Because the 45 degree ends are sewn together the netting stretches & conforms to the bottom of the hammock, leaving a small portion of your butt & back uncovered. Pulling the netting up on the bottom just tightens the ends.
What I noticed one scout doing was slipping one end of the netting off the hammock and just wadding it up inside one end of the hammock. He would then re-attach the netting through the other side before turning in.
Good design! You could also not cut the 45 degree angles and sew a bug tube with drawstrings on each end. Might save some time but it would be a small weight penalty.
I was just going to cut a 45 degree angle on one end, then put a drawstring on the other similar to JJ Hammock sock.
I was going to make my own but found a good deal on a WB net.
Kinda like Sgt Rock's net here.

I suppose you could have foot end fixed & drawstring for head end. Good idea, would be worth a try.
How stretchy is this netting?
Quite stretchy.
Could you use tulle with this design? Or would it be too flimsy?
I think Tulle wouldn't stretch enough & would be prone to tearing.
I'm not sure what the stuff is that I get from my local fabric place. The bolts are unmarked. It has holes smaller than tulle, about the size of noseeum. It's a little heavier and very stretchy.
PM me and I can get you enough for a net.
