    Noob needing wisdom

Alright here I am, having made up my mind to buy a WBBB for my first hammock, but i still can't choose which tarp to get. I am trying to decide between the MacCat Deluex and the Warbonnet Big Mamajamba. So I thought I would see what y'all might have some pearls of wisdom that might help me out.

Both are fine tarps. There's no wrong decision there.

If you are only getting one tarp, get a Warbonnet tarp with the doors that detach. Especially if you plan to do any foul weather/winter camping in the hammock. Having doors is a cool option.

There are also some folks on HF that sell after market "doors" that can adapt to almost any tarp, if you want detachable doors. Both Brian and Brandon make good cat-cut tarps, but there are others out there who sell a great hammock tarp.

WB has two different types of Big Mamajamba; the Spinn UL and the Silnylon.
The Spinn UL is a bit more expense, but lighter, while the Silnylon is the opposite (heavier and cheaper). Both are great.

However, I personally like the Silnylon, especially if you will be camping in windier areas. I have seen both and I think the Spinn UL makes more noise when the wind picks up. I love mine, and am just waiting for Brandon to get back to order my doors.

    Happy decision making.

Is it just me, or does that phrase just look funny? We've come a long way if we are referring to sil as a heavier option.

Depends on how well the tarp is set-up. Because there is no real stretch to the Spinn tarps, you can get them very tight. Not really an option with sil since it enjoys stretching out for a night's rest. Spinn is noisier no doubt, but when pitched nice and tight the only time it makes noise is during set-up and take-down. At least on the smaller tarps. I don't have any experience with Spinn on the circus tent sized tarps like my Superflies.

As in every comparison; heavier/lighter depends only on where you start from! if you had begun with the PU coated tarps, sil would be -much- lighter, and Spinn even lighter than that. feel better now? KM
