OK, time to start a names list for Dolly Sods. PM me if you are pretty sure you are still going and I will update and post the list every so often until the hang. That way we can get a feel for what size group will be showing up.

Hey, sorry for a bit of delay on response. This is first time we've done a hang at Dolly Sods. And first time for me where whole group is backpacking in -- so as far as I know there are no expectations for this hang. Now with that being said . . . most hangs, people bring a bit of their favorite stuff to share because we're nice people and love showing off a bit . Hence the pepperoni rolls, brauts, homemade breads, livermush, world peace, etc. Since we're out hiking/backpacking we're exercising so it also takes away the guilt factor of eating things we usually don't so we enjoy it even more!
At the MAHHA hang, we do the food sharing on Saturday night since people arrive at so many different times on Friday. At the Mt. Rogers hang that I was at the food and fire sharing started right away and never stopped. Thank goodness for that because it was c-c-c-cold!
At Dolly Sods since we're near the cars on Friday evening, easy enough to bring extra food and share as much as you want. For Saturday, just bring a little something. Don't have to overdo it since we're backpacking. If you pack at last minute or forget, don't even worry about it. No one will care. As far as what to share . . . anything is good!
The other thing is to bring your coolest gear. Most of us are gear junkies so we l-u-u-uve seeing what everyone has. Wood stoves, cuben or anything DIY always get special attention. And I'm sure the angels weep everytime Sgt. Rock shows up somewhere with his sub 1# hammock setup.
Since we're backpacking, make sure to bring your "10 Essentials". Make sure to bring a map of the area even if you are with a group. I will make a few extra copies of mine. Dolly Sods weather can change drastically. I plan for rain no matter what. And probably 20 degrees colder than predicted at night. So if it's says 50 at night, I'll plan for freezing but that's just me because it's the Sods.
Finally, we try to leave the camp area better than when we found it or at least No Trace. Usually where we camp are fire rings so we do make camp fires. But if there is trash in them, we do our best to hike out the trash, so bring extra ziplock bag for trash with you to help in that area.
That's all I can think of for now. . .
