Harpo, what's not shown in the pictures is that you can put a line on the upper corner of the triangle, and adjust the position of the triangle on the ridgeline. By moving the triangle toward the middle of the hammock, the UQ suspension can be given dramatically more up angle. That serves to keep any part of the end of the UQ from falling away from the hammock.

    Ahhh, that makes sense.
I had the same thought as Harpo: The pull angles as shown are not significantly different. The end of the suspension do seem a few inches further apart than if attached at the end of the hammock.

This might help with the MM IxUQ on the HH ExplUL. (geez, I'm sounding like a texter-teen ) But I have another simpler mod in mind.

Just remember... if you pull the ends up too sharply, you can create a gap in the middle.

That's why I prefer to play with the tension.

An inch or two makes a big difference in how the UQ hangs, and it's not only slippage but gaps/compression that changing the angle affects. I haven't used this one, but based on other experience I think it would make a huge difference. I'm thinking about making some!

To be honest this was a very quick test, my hammock wasn't even centered between the posts. I really just couldn't stop myself from running outside and setting it up. I didn't even have a chance to get in (Gig). My "test subject" allowed my to tweak and pull and pat and rub, all round and I did notice a difference in the snugness of the QU (AHE KAQ Lost River) to the subjects body as opposed to the old suspension. I was really just trying to get a rough estimate of the "fit". More tweaking is required. And hopefully more rubbing and patting.....if she'll let me get away with it.

my 3/4 uq is hung with 1/8 in shock cords both length wise and cross wise,(all 4 sides, a channel with the shock cords in them, on all 4 sides) that way one can adjust lengh, and width.seems to work pretty well. not much fiddle factor ( I just hate "fiddle factor!") gnome

Yep ....I used Grip Clips to position tie-out points on an indoor-outdoor fleece blanket, then ran 10" bungees up to the hammock end. Adjusted the angle and tension by repositioning the GCs, but it worked just fine. Still in the hunt for a real UQ for the chilly Fall weather in New England! Due to moisture issues up here, I may bypass down for synthetic insulation in any UQ I buy.

Either way, we keep on asking the right questions here; how can we do it better, cheaper, easier? And we keep coming-up with incremental developments which are advancing the art of hammocking, thanks to the inquisitive and tinkering nature of hammockers, and the willingness of the cottage industry guys/gals to try some of those ideas out!

    THANKS! This is WAAAAAY fun!

Which makes it a PITA to keep a website up to date!
