    Question Turns and half hitches

To avoid the spectra on our HH's from cutting through our Tree Huggers we have started using carbiners.

The carbiners are clipped through the loops of the huggers, then the spectra is wrapped 3 to for times around the carbiner, finally I tie a few half hitches in the line.

This setup seemed very stable and there was alot less stretching then I get with the normal HH knot.

Are there any risks I should be aware of?

    Thanks,

    -Don

I think you're fine. The wraps take most the load off the free end, the half hitches keep it from slipping. Sounds to me like you're using a souped up version of the round turn with two hitches, which I use all the time on the suspension line before getting into mechanical advantage (the main benefit of which is ease of adjustment because a single hitch will hold the standing end).

i saw a diagram of a mooring hitch the other day, looks like it would work well for a biner.

Cool, now I can sleep with peace of mind.

The mooring hitch looks good to but if I am not mistaken one pull will undo it. . . . . I'm not sure I would trust that around my hiking buddies!
