one step away from finished uq.

I spent the majority of today converting a child's sleeping bag into a partial 3 season uq. the remaining question is how i will suspend it. so far i tried attaching 3 loops to each side and running parra cord from the ends of the hammock and threw the loops. the problem is that for this to be against the bottom of the hammock it restricts my diagonal lie. I know how the yeti is suspended. what other ways are uq suspended?
    please help.

Shockcord is the answer. It allows the uq to flex and move, yet stay snug to the hammock. Look at some of the videos for ideas.

    Hey Pineapple Newton,

once again Arrow Head Equipment probably has exactly what you need. www.AHE.com They are called "UQ Triangle Thingie", Paul just added them to the store and they may do the job you describe.

If you read the item description, it will help you see the whole picture...how they work and who is responsible for the great idea to cure a very common issue...improper UQ suspension and resulting CBS "Cold Butt Syndrome"!

AHE specializes in offering hard to find/Hammock specific items in quantities you are looking for, and at a very reasonable price. Paul is a great person to deal with when it comes to customer service. Everyone needs to check out his website for sure. IMHO

Hope this helps you out, and as always HYOH/YMMV

    Happy trails,

I just added channels on each end to cinch them a bit with shock cord, and added grosgrain loops on each corner and put SC on one end, and Zing-It on the other. The ZI is lighter, and the SC gives the necessary tension without stressing the quilt.

Being a child's sleeping bag, it's only a 3/4 quilt, so I put the Zing-It on the foot end, and the SC on the head end. No particular reason, it just seemed like the way to do it.
    Hope that all makes sense.

I think it goes: 1 corner tied to your suspension, drape over your ridgeline, 2 corners hang down and you attach each corner of your UQ to those two corners, respectively. That's my understanding of it anyway.

If your scavenged shockcord works, use that. Then replace with the same. 15 feet of new cord will be more than enough. Not all shockcord is the same, some hold more than others (weaker or stronger/stretchier) and some do well in the heat and cold, while others fail.

But use what you have and replace later

My advice is to measure 3 times (thrice?), cut once.

-- I still mess up even measuring twice, in other words...
