    Hangin from Savannah

    How's it goin tree people?
I have a few months before I return from sunny Afghanistan so I'm taking my time researching and trying to find out which will be the best hammock for me and my potential island camping adventures.

I'll be mostly hanging out in the Southern US but if I can get my significant other into some camping then the sky is the limit for where I'll end up trying these hammocks out. Just wanted to post here first and say hello, and now I'm off to try to read before I ask those million+1 repeat questions I'm sure y'all get!

Yes indeed. Hope you find a hammock that suits you... I'm sure you will.
We have a few HF members that have taken their hammocks into the big sand box & found ways to put them to use. Just Jeff & SGT Rock are a couple that come to mind.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Welcome to HF, and thanks for your service.

You'll definitely want bug protection in the south...that narrows your options down a bit. Be sure to check out the Warbonnet Blackbird. You'll get lots of recommendations for that. See if you like bridge hammocks, like the Jacks R Better Bear Mountain Bridge Hammock...plenty of info here if you search for it. Clark Jungle Hammock has lots of fans, and Hennessy is a common starter version.

    Talking Thanks!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. It was actually recently in a kindle book I got called Bug Out that I learned of the Hennessy Hammock and subsequently found this site. I've been tent camping all of my life and absolutely miss it with all of my being, and this just seems like such an upgrade from sleeping on roots, rocks, and always trying to find level ground. I definitely want some bug and elements protection, I've been in a survival situation with no shelter for a few days and I've had my fun with that to last the rest of my days.

I'll check out the Warbonnet and Clark, and peruse the rest of the options out there, to include understanding what types (ie bridge, is that flatter, more bent/angled?) that there are. I was originally looking at the Hennessy military version so I'll see what I can find that stacks up to it, as the 'shelf' I keep hearing about in this Warbonnet sounds useful.
Lots to consider, see you around on here!

Welcome fellow Georgian. Thanks for serving and I wish you a safe trip home. I just ordered a Clark ultralight, so I'll be babbling on and on about it once it gets here. I've been using Hennessy's for the past six years. They're great starter hammocks and made really well. My knees are starting to bother me so I thought I'd try a different brand. I'll never go back to tenting, unless it's car camping and I can lug along the cushy blow-up mattress. I do recommend a side zip model if you go for a hammock with built in netting.

Outdoor, I'll be keeping an eye out for what you have to say on that Clark.

It's funny that you mention the zipper entry, as I was just talking with a guy earlier today about my bafflement for the Army's affinity with velcro and that from now on the less that I have to deal with velcro in my life, the better!

Now I'll just have to keep reading on here for some neat spots near Savannah (just got stationed there and promptly deployed before I could really get a feel for the area). I'm happy to see such a large number of Georgians on here though!

I made my nephew a hammock, he's in the Army, takes it everywhere with him. All the other guys are jealous.
Hammocks should be GI, they make sense. Comfort, dry, portable.

Howdy, and an early welcome home for when you get here.

I've used Hennessys for years. The new Deep Jungle is one I really like. We got one for my wife to use recently and we both just love it.
