Question Single Point Suspension Hammock Options

I've been thinking about getting a single point suspension hammock, and wondered what choices there are...I've seen the claytor bat hammock, but wondered about other ones out there...

    Thanks!

This one isn't a full length hammock, more like a lounger, but close.

    Very nice.

It took me a few seconds of looking at the pics to understand that you set up the hugger, then tossed the straps over the branch to create your muonting point. At first I thought the pictures were upside down.

This seems to be a viable option for those times when you only have one tree to use - as long as you have the correct hammock with you and good tree branches aren't waaaaay up the tree.

    Thanks for sharing.

Add a block and tackle system at the apex of the hammock and you could bear bag yourself

With a pulley with enough mechanical advantage, I might try and do just that...it'd be cool to sleep 20-30 feet up...

I'm glad someone is tinkering with SPS hammocks. That concept hasn't really been explored very much on HF.

Looking forward to more posts about it.

You can put together a fairly light and compact 4 to 1 haul system that would get you up there and you could even rig it so that it captured your progress (so if you let go of the line you wouldn't free fall to your demise). I carry a mini 4 to 1 in my harness pouch for rescue ops. Pretty handy if you need to reposition a load on a main line among other things. The trick would be rigging a solid anchor point at that height.

I guess you could try a throw bag to get a line over the the limb. With line over branch, remove throw bag and attach tree hugger to line. Pass line through end loop in tree hugger and pull line, cinching hugger around branch. You'd need a lot of cord and a good arm but I guess it's possible.

If it were me, I think I would still sleep with a harness on and a soft link to the anchor just in case. Certainly not the system for the gram conscience but an interesting thought nontheless.

    Single Swing

Here is one I made a few years back.

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...wing#post23249

The first few pics are of the "single swing", the others are of a regular old strappack/strap-o-lounger.
