    New Hammocker from Colorado

Hi, I'm new to hammocks. It looks like a great way to get out and camp once you have gotten older and your back can't take the hard ground. I found this sight when searching for info for my son's backpacking class. All this information is great. Love the positive feedback. Hope to get out and hammock. Thanks

Welcome to HF Mallard! I don't think that hammocks are just for the old though!!! They are for everyone, from kids on up! In fact there are a bunch of kids that frequent the forum, attend HF Hangs, and do backpacking/hiking and use a hammock and have been doing so for quite some time now!
Not jumping on ya, just want to let you know!!!
Very cool about the class your son is taking! Whom is it through? Is it boyscouts, outdoor adventure school? I have ben looking around to see if there are any high rated one's near me for my oldest (9yr old) and I've found a couple, well actually two, and they seem "ok" but I don't know anyone who has been in one to hear some feedback!!!!

Welcome to the forum, Mallard. I live in Monument, and we've organized two Colorado Hangs now. The winter hang (February) had several folks, and the spring hang had three (more were signed up, but fell out due to other obligations. So there are several opportunities to hang with folks in the area.

Re: age groups, my kids were hammock camping when they were 3, and now they're 11 and 15. Comfort ain't only for the old, but it sure helps bad backs get back to the woods!

Welcome to the forums. Camping in a hammock is easy on the back / body no matter what the age.

Welcome Mallard, from the other side of the "hill"! I just succombed to this devastating hammock disease early this spring. I missed the Spring Hang unfortunately, hope to make one soon. The mileage to get there was ridiculous for me. I have several good friends in the Springs area, none afflicted by "The Disease" though. Enjoy this wonderful place!

Sounds like you need to organize a 'West Slope Hang'.
There are enough of us over here on the other side that a carpooling caravan might work. That would shave everybody's transportation expenses and maybe even keep Just Jeff from getting his Jeep stuck again.
