    sleeping bag as UQ

I have a BA sleeping bag that is their semi-rectangular shape and I want to try to attach it as an UQ without significantly modifying the bag.

Since the BA bags have pad sleeve on the bottom, I can cut slots in the fabric for shock cord without damaging the synthetic insulation.

Q1. Do I need to reinforce the fabric at the slots I cut to prevent them from being extended/lengthened by the weight of the bag?

Q2: How do I attach the shock cord to the hammock? I was thinking of sewing loops on to the side of hammock and using mini-biners.

Q3: I was hoping to get away with four attachment cords. Does that number of cords seem realistic?

Someday, I will buy a JRB MT Wash UQ but many pennies still need to be saved...

I used a Kelty Galactic bag as a peapod-style over/under quilt, and it worked very nicely. I did need something on top because having the bag all the way around me was a little too much empty space on top to warm up -- but underneath it was fine.

The actual PeaPod ( From Speer Hammocks) worked, IMO, spectacularly when compared to most other techniques of staying warm in a hammock.

It has it's pros and cons compared to other excellent approaches, for example a separate UQ ( or torso UQ/leg pad), but it is almost guaranteed warmth, top and bottom, with no draft worries being it's biggest pro IMO.

So, to what ever degree of success you have using your sleeping bag to mimic a PeaPod, it should work in a grand fashion. I would think success would be more sure with really large (especially wide) bags. I've never done it though. I've only used the real deal, a Speer PeaPod.
