    Gathered end mod to bridge style

    Has anyone threaded a rod or pipe through the ends of a gathered end hammock to widen, open up and lessen the tight cocoon feel? I'm thinking of getting a piece of aluminum rod and welding a small enough connection loop to fit through the fabric tunnel so it won't be as constricting.

    Thanks for the helpful advice!

    You want to check out Grizz's DMB (Dual Mode Bridge) hammock which takes a bridge hammock and does a transformers type change to a gathered end. Perhaps you will find help reverse engineering the process from those posts.
    I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Slowhike uses a light weight spreader bar to eliminate shoulder squeeze in his gathered end DIY hammock.

    I think Spikestrip is just talking about a setup like Slowhike's.

    The DMB involves channels and a different suspension system.

    This is exactly what I had in mind in my thread a few days ago. I have no means of sewing tabs onto my hammock for a spreader bar and was curious if I could slide a pole through the channel giving me a "backyard hammock" for lack of better terms. My thought is that the material would slide or gather towards the middle.

    Any ideas from the collective engineering corp. ?

    Nah, your idea was spot on. It's just the DMB is quite the project. Though the end result would probably be better in the end, I'm pretty sure they wanted something with much less effort.

    Spikestrip;

    Putting the bar in the channel would raise the center of gravity making it kinda tippy and put the stress on the seams of the channel. If you think your hammock is up to it, you will probably need a suspension triangle like the bridge so a look over the DMB thread would be a good idea.

    Also, you could try a piece of wooden dowel and not have to weld anything.
    Post some pictures of your idea!

    Not so much less effort, but perhaps more begginerish? Lol if I can make up a word.
