    Lightening up a WB?

Does anyone know how much they can lighten up a Traveler or Blackbird by changing some of the components on the suspension? Thanks

About 6 oz using dynaglide whoopies, zing it ridgeline, and 1/16" shock cord for side tie outs.

I actually just did this about a week ago so those are my figures from 25oz 1.1 single black bird before to about 19oz after including stuff sack

Thanks for the info Raul. From the look of the original weight I am guessing that you had the 1.1 with the adjustable suspension and not the line/strap suspension? If so I wonder if you can drop close tot he same amount with the line/strap combo. Either way 6oz is a nice drop!

Out of curiosity where on LI do you hail from? I lived in the Farmingdale/Massapequa area for quite some time.

Thanks for confirming that Raul. Has anyone replaced the line/strap suspension with a lighter alternative?

Really, the only way to lighten line/strap suspension is to stop using straps. A single strand of line is about as light as it gets!

Thanks Jeff. Thats what I thought, but I would rather not go that route in order to protect the bark.

Agreed...we need to protect the bark, and the straps are the easiest way to do that. There may be a lighter way...search for TeeDee's and TiredFeet's posts about putting sticks between the rope and tree. Personally, I don't think the grams saved are worth the hassle of it, but if that fits your system then you might want to try it. They seem happy with it.
