    Winter UQ - Zero degrees

i'm interested in another winter zero degree quilt. i have used a Mt. Washington 4 at these temps and am happy with it, but it was the only one on market at that time. Winter Incubator is the only other one i've seen, but have never used.

i thought about 3/4 but at 0 degrees my feet get cold first.

any ideas or help would be appreciated. (want to be at 28 oz or less)

    KK i have a winer crowsnest 3/4 with 2oz overstuff...comes in at 24oz
but it has 5 inch of loft...the UQ is a beast
for my feet i used a small pad i cut down the fit into the footbox my my TQ...this way there is no need to worry about slipping off the pad in the middle of the night...

i'm really happy with my winter crowsnest...and adams quilts are very well made...you can't go wrong
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

I haven't tried any UQ as yet, but like you, my feet get cold and I'm a warm sleeper otherwise. I've figured I would look at full length UQ's when in the market due to that. I realize 3/4 UQ plus some type of pad under the feet works for some, but I'm not sure I would be satisfied with the results.

Are you thinking about a 3/4 length only from a weight stand point and if so, are you willing to adjust accordingly the foot equation to do so when you've stated the MW4 has been good to you? I'm just curious.

If you go the 3/4 route, Te-Wa will provide any amount of overstuff you like. 3oz extra in his Winter Coat model should easily go to zero.

I don't mind using a pad under my feet with a partial underquilt. It works pretty well if you slide the pad inside the footbox of your top quilt. Doing that, I don't notice the warmth difference between a pad and a quilt in the foot area.

    AS,

So you (in your opinion) believe the 2 different methods will keep the foot area one as warm as the other?

Yes. As long as you keep your feet on top of the pad, I personally find it to be just as warm.

If your feet slide off the pad, they will get cold. That's why I mentioned the trick of sliding the pad into the footbox.

    Thanks AS & Shug.

KK, I don't want to hijack your thread, so I'll start another one and see if any others have the same experience with 3/4 +pad vs full.
I'll post the link here after I start the thread.

Thanks KK, but I didn't want to take this thread off from your original question.
