    Canadian hammock virgin

    Hey there!

I am moving to a new place soon, with a deck and a very small bedroom. Earlier this week, the idea came to me that I wouldn't mind getting a hammock for my deck, and sleep in it until it gets too cold. I've never slept in a hammock before, so I started searching online.

I started wondering if anyone sleeps in a hammock full-time, in their home, and then I discovered that lots of people for thousands of years have done this. I'm not sure if it would work for me, but I like the idea of straying from conformity and having a hammock in my bedroom instead of a bed.

Anyway, i found this forum the other day and have been lurking. A lot of great info on here! I'm still searching for the right hammock. I want one I can take camping as well as put it up inside my apartment if I so choose. Any good suggestions? It would need to be something that can hang on a stand indoors, as well as between trees/posts outdoors.

Cheers! Looking forward to hanging soon.

I think that the TrekLight, or ENO, style hammocks are the most versatile. I slept in one at home for months before I moved on to bigger hammocks designed by those people that have been sleeping in them for hundreds of years. The TrekLight style hammocks are very comfortable and will hold-up to the rigors of trail life as well as provide you a nice sleep at home.

    Welcome fellow Canuck!
My advice would be go down to MEC and pick up one of their Portec hammocks. Its a parachute nylon hammock the same as the ENO's and Treklite's Cannibal mentioned. Try it out and if you don't like it take it back. the key to your comfort is to play with the amount of sag and lay at a diagonal so you are more flat. You are also going to need to get a suspension system so I would advise against the straps MEC sells since they stretch a lot. MEC does have a good guarantee so it would not be too bad to get them and return them if you are not happy. You could buy some polyester straps and cinch buckles on a chain link from Arrowhead Equipment. This suspension set up is simple and easily adjusted. PM me if you have any questions.
