    Superfly or WBBB?

So, hiking in about three weeks in ME and NY is looking likely, but I need to know something... If you were in my shoes... no shelter, but enough money to buy a BlackBird or Superfly (these being your wants for a sleeping system) and you have a ~3# "backyard hammock" and a thermarest, what do you do?

Get the Superfly. You can always get an inexpensive hammock to sleep in and then upgrade later. But if you buy a Blackbird, then you have a super nice hammock with no tarp and that's not doing you a bit of good.

Like I said, I have a hammock (looks like a DIY home hammock) from a garage sale, and the thing is, I didn't know whether to protect from bugs or rain more imperatively this time of year...

Rain, definitely. You can always use permethrin, deet, etc, to keep bugs away. To go out without sufficient shelter, IMO, is nothing short of reckless and irresponsible.

Neither. Go to a fabric store, get a little ripstop and sew a Speer-style hammock for next to nothing. So easy, even I can do it.
