    Odd Hangs

Just curious what have you done to still hang your hammock and tarp than have too resort to going to the ground on a certain trip got Pics would be great to see. I have just been pondering this and thinking what thickness foam pad to get for keeping feet warm in winter with 3/4 UQ and if I need to hit the ground .

your talking winter i think. you would need to protect yourself from 32 - degree ground. i don't know what that would take, but i don't carry it.

120+ days on the trail and i never went to the ground. i always figured if i did i would sleep sitting up on top of my pack. wrapped in my quilts.

Maybe I need to explain a little better where what I am getting at. I am talking about hanging the hammock in a place short on trees above tree lines in rock crevasse what have people done to overcome these obstacles and still use there hammock as intended hope this clarifies sorry if I confused people I know I am like what shug calls a visual learner

Winter is a unique situation. I won't go high enough to not be able to hang in winter, so will probably be fine with the winter Yeti. Dig a trench, hang the hammock, set up the winter tarp and sleep draftless and warm.

I generally study out the route and plan - I go above 10,000 feet on a regular basis and do not always get to take a hammock anymore. On 3 season trips where I can hang most of the time, but where there is potential for grounding, I'm planning to go with a 1/2 length underquilt and a medium Neoair. In the hammock I will have the underquilt and the neoair mostly deflated and folded, and tucked under the legs. On the ground, I will have a light groundsheet, the NeoAir, and the 1/2 length underquilt omni-taped beneath me to make the full length JRB Hudson River into a sleeping tube. (this is the plan anyway. Still working on it.) I have a 20F rig all year in the Sierra - only way to stay warm at elevation.

not confused. did the presidentials and Maine, just didn't get stuck above treeline. i have a hammock, i couldn't. i've seen places i could hang from rock formations, but i am not so stupid as to hang above tree line in the winter.
i would like to see some pics too.

Dude - punctuation is your friend. Seriously - you might get more responses if you used enough punctuation to make your posts easier to read.

If you fit the UQ well, it's probably enough to keep you toasty in 63F...pretty much anything will. If you want a pad, start with the cheap CCF pads from Walmart. You won't need both for low 60s, so pick one.
