Well here it is just a little over a week after joining HF and I have the material, thread, rope and was able to borrow a sewing machine. The only thing I am missing is the webbing. For all you guys out there that are hesitant about using a sewing machine, My neighbor brought on over yesterday. it had never been used nor have I ever used one. I set it up from loading a bobbin, threading the machine and got the upper tension set for the ripstop. With the manual it was a cinch!! I hemmed a scrap peice and other than keeping the material straight so me stitches are straight I think it looks awesome. I wish I had pictures to get some opinions on the hems. One thing about the sewing machine. It is old and I thing it needs to be lubed. it is pretty clean for sitting on a shelf for several years, but with the foot pedal fully pressed I would say it stitches 2-3 stitches / sec. I don't mind the speed but it sounds as if it struggling some hence the need to lube. Any suggestions other than lubing? My goal is to have my first basic hammock sewn by this weekend. I'll try to post pics. Thanks to the forum and to all members for your posts and assistance.
PS. I told my 2 neighbors/hunting partners and they already want me to make them one!!!
