    Large hammock sighting

A rather large hammock was set up in downtown Boston recently. There is no rain in the forecast for a while; no word on whether they will set up a really big tarp. Also no explanation for why the creator couldn't use her neighbor's hammock (broken hammock? bad hammock etiquette?). Clearly there is more to the story.

I love the quote at the bottom of the article. "It's a big hammock, how could you go wrong?"

Now that's art we can relate to!

One line in the article saddened me:
...who mans the hammock eight hours per day on Barraza’s behalf, talking about the project, accepting donations, and making sure users sign waivers for liability reasons.

What a lawsuit happy country we live in. Such a shame.

The conservancy that manages the narrow 1.3-mile park said yesterday it is considering keeping the hammock. The city has looked for ways to improve the Greenway, such as recently adding free Wi-Fi and six new food stands, amid criticism that it lacks vitality."
What a spoiled society we live in as well.

Can't be happy to have a greenway, it's gotta have wifi and food stands to be usable. Have I mentioned I don't like society very much?

A lawsuit happy, self serving, spoiled bunch of buttnuggets, and it only gets worse the close you get to a big city.

You have no idea the internal struggle I face on a daily basis. Almost every fiber of my being longs for a simpler time, and a simpler life style. All the while I get up and go to work 5 days a week for a television company doing software systems analysis.
If there's two ways to take my comments, assume it's the lighter and funnier of the two.

Just another reason for installing mega-hammocks in city parks. It's really, really, really difficult to have a bad day when you're laying in a hammock.
Course, the other 50 people laying in it with you might be a bit of an annoyance.

The city actually seems to be trying hard to do something reasonable with the space. This is the grassy area that was once an elevated highway, and is now the roof of (part of) the Big Dig. This part of the city has been completely transformed from urban blight to open space. Here are some pretty good before/after pics.

I'll take grass, wifi and The Sausage Guy over commercial real estate. There are also some small parks sprouting up in the space. For a city, it's not all bad!

I like Gargoyle's idea of Frankenhammock! I can also see a one-night hammock-palooza in the Greenway, along the lines of what Improv Everywhere does. We'd need a lot of stands...
