    Motorcycle Hammock Stand!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has taken me some time to post this, family issues, and I am please to present to the HF community a patent pending device that can combine, for some of us, two very lovable obsessions. These obsessions are of course Hammocks and then motorcycles!!!!!!!!!!!! Without further adiue let me introduce you to the Motorcycle Hammock Stand (pics are below) that is produced by Mark Wilson out of Albright, WV. I saw this while I was at the Black Hills Motorcycle rally in Sturgis, SD. I got the oppotunity to talk to the owner and his "model" for a few minutes and found out that this stand was built so he could rest while he participated in the first Motocycle Challenge from Key West, FL to Homer, AK. Thats right boys and girls this is a distance race that covers 8650 and has to be completed in 14 days. I found out that the stand can be assembled in about 2 minutes and fits in a 3.5" dia X 25" nylon storage bag. It is capable of supporting a 250 lb rider and is being developed to fit all (new) Harley Davidson motorcycles and later other Euro Sport Touring cycles will be added to the list. He has a website that is still under development and here is the link: http://www.wiskybilt.com/Home.php. His e-mail address is on the site so if you have any questions please ask him.

    And now for the pics:

That's a great idea. I can't find much of anything on his site though. I'll keep looking back. That would be great for long rides or rides through treeless areas. It looks like the hammock is a bit short though.

I wonder... What if you had a flat piece of metal that you could push a tire onto and then attach the stand components to that... Have one for each end and you're ready to go. You might be able to get a little more length out of the setup.

    Goblin:
After seeing this at Sturgis and the surroundings in SD, I got to wondering if a trailer/stand could be built!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be working on some of the designs over the next several weeks and months. I will keep all informed.

Mine are, too -- and I have some pretty big bikes. They're still only about 8' long.

Getting a comfortable hang out of around 100 inches over-all length is going to be a real challenge. That young lady in those pics is not all that tall, and she looks cramped in that wee little hammock.

As a novelty/attention getter, this may work, but I have my doubts about its true usefulness. I'll happily eat some crow on this one, though, if I'm wrong.

Goblin, your idea of using the bike's weight to hold down a purpose-built stand is an intriguing one.

That does look interesting, but I would be afraid to use it. My speed triple is short like is being said. Plus I have thoughts on bending something or having it fall on me.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

Both of mine together are only 9', measured by the wheelbases.

    Another Concept

Ok, I'm no graphic artist, but this is what I was thinking. A 9' wheelbase shouldn't be a problem if you could roll onto the stand base, and then have the hammock stand going out and back. By doing this, where the hammock hooks up there should easily be an 11' span if not more.

Of course, I work with software or wood, the "how to" is gonna be on someone else's shoulders.
