I am also a newbie to be sure but... I have used the whoopie slings both ways with out any trouble at all (fixed loop at hammock or the tree hugger). I have found that milking of the bury was all that was needed to hold my 215 lbs. Was I just lucky? What am I missing here?

Here is a suggestion, apply a slippery hitch when you have it adjusted to the correct length,
    give it a try...

You are correct to put the fixed eye at the hammock end. That is how it is traditionally done. The fixed eye can be placed at the strap end but then you need to use a biner or ring or something at the hammock end to allow the adjustable loop to slip through. If I understand correctly some whoopies are made with a loop on the end of the adjustable tag end. Some have tried hanging from this. This will result in you on the ground from what I have read.
At the strap end you can use a biner on the end of your strap or you can use a marlin spike. Very easy to use the marlin spike and most likely lighter than a biner. Some even use a biner instead of a stick to make their marlin spike. I use toggles cut from aluminum slurpee straws. There are as many ways to configure things as you can imagine.

You always seem to amaze us with your amount of inteligeance Otter, please keep doing it, so that others will not look at me so much.

    Wrangler88,
it sounds as if you have been given some very correct information, and I am sure others have benifited also from the advice given on why your whoopie slings might have been slipping. Way to go team!

    All secure in section 8,
