Question Budget Ultralight Hammock + Rainfly That Will Keep Me Comfy and Dry

I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a Hennessy Hammock, but I want to be able to stay comfy and dry.
I am trying to become an ultralight backpacker, so ideally I would like a complete setup (Rainfly + Hammock + Suspension System) for under 2lbs.
Also, I want to spend no more than $100 in total.
I'd also like to occasionally have the option of sharing it with my dog and/or another person.

    Thanks!!

    Welcome to the forum.

You can have cheap, quality, or lightweight....pick any two.

grand trunk ultralight travel hammock, whoopie sling stuff, and a used stock Hennessey silnylon stock tarp bought used from someone on this forum. (going rate for that tarp used is about 30 bucks, the hammock is 20 bucks, and the whoopie stuff is another 50 bucks) you can do it, and you don't even have to D.I.Y. Got a few more bucks, make that a Nano hammock -- that'll fit better under the Hennessey tarp. Add a walmart foam pad and you're there.

I don't consider myself an ultra-lighter, but I don't like heavy loads and I'm cheap... Here is what I have on the cheap:

    GrandTrunk Ultralight: $15
    Harbor Freight straps: $3
    Thulle for bugnet: $5
    Equinox Tarp: $40
    Mason line: $4
    Army Poncho Liner UQ: $20
    Total: $87
Weight: ~3 lbs. (my fish scale says 2, but I don't believe it)

You then need a TQ, which, on my last trip, was just my extra set of clothes and my poncho draped over the top. The tarp could be lighter and cost twice as much. The UQ could be lighter, and fit better, and be 5 times as much...

As AS said, pick your poison (which I think I've seen that quote in an RFC somewhere). Good news is, with a big tarp, it can easily be shared with another.

Where do I get an Equinox Tarp for $40?
How do I attach the netting to the hammock? (Is that why I need mason line?)
Also, please explain how the Army Poncho Liner would work as an UQ.
    Would I need a pad?

Also, if I am going to be spending close to $100 anyway does the Hennessy Hammock Scout or Expedition seem like a better option?

    Sorry for ALL the questions...

    Thanks!!

Try searching the forum a bit...the answers to your questions are already there, and you'll learn all kinds of new stuff as you research.

SGT Rock has a couple great threads re: lightweight setups that don't cost much. They're both stickied at the tops of forums.

This page might help you get started as well:

HH is well worth the money and you can skip alot of hassles like attaching all the parts.
